A major trading post for the British in the Far East, Penang Island has a unique ambiance blending East with West. Once described as the “Pearl of the Orient” due to a brisk trade in spices, fabrics and tin, Penang today has become a kind of Malaysian Riviera. Fine sandy beaches and spectacular scenery has made the island one of the most popular destinations in Malaysia.

Day 13 - Langkawi

A magnificent archipelago north-west of the Malaysian coast in the Melaka delta, the Langkawi islands are protected by unESCO. Do be sure to take the cable car up to the summit of Mount Mat Cincang as the view over the Andaman Sea is one of the best.
